'Age is not a factor' says Seberang Jaya PN candidate
SEBERANG JAYA - Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate for Seberang Jaya, Izhar Shah Datuk Arif Shah, has urged the voters not to vote for the candidates because of the age factor.
Izhar further elaborated that experience should not be measured by age; in fact, we should measure the candidate by their attitude and character.
"Dear voters, we should first study the background of every candidate for your state seat. Do not bash me and claim that I am not a great leader due to my age.
"Yes, I am young. But I have a lot of experience serving communities here during my father’s administration as a state assemblyman," he stressed in his speech at Ceramah Kelompok PN Seberang Jaya at Ummah Hall Sembilang here at Seberang Jaya.
Izhar, a 30-year-old candidate, is the son of a former Seberang Jaya assemblyman from Barisan Nasional (BN), Datuk Arif Shah Omar Shah, who served for two terms from 2004 to 2013.
"If you want to drive progress, you shouldn't belittle youth, and this shouldn't happen.
If there are no young leaders, how will they drive the government? "Ladies and gentlemen, I am a young leader from Seberang Jaya, raised in Seberang Jaya. Let's not choose a leader from nowhere," he added.
Earlier, Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Johari Kassim said that Izhar was too young to serve the people in Seberang Jaya.
Izhar and Johari will be contesting for the Seberang Jaya state seat, which will be held on Aug 12.
