Myanmar cleaner charged with outraging modesty of senior citizen
KUALA LUMPUR - A Myanmar national was charged at the Ampang Magistrate’s Court today with outraging the modesty of a senior citizen in front of a shop lot in Taman Muda last week.
Mohammad Jubair Musi Ullah, 23, who is a United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) card holder, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him in Bahasa Melayu before Magistrate Amalina Basirah Md Top.
Mohammad, who works as a cleaner, is accused of assaulting the 71-year-old woman with the intention to outrage her modesty at 3.30 pm on Aug 2.
He was charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which carries up to 10 years imprisonment, a fine, whipping, or any two punishment upon conviction.
The accused also pleaded not guilty to another charge of administering ketamine to himself in a toilet at the Ampang Jaya Narcotics Office, Hulu Langat, near here on the same day.
The charge, framed under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, provides for a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or imprisonment up to two years upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Norhidayah Abdullah Sani requested the court not to grant bail, and case mention and appointment of counsel was set for Oct 23.
On Aug 4, a 26-second video clip went viral on social media showing a foreign man assaulting an elderly lady who was collecting boxes in front of a shop lot in Taman Muda, Ampang.
Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Mohd Azam Ismail, in a statement, said the man has two previous drug records and was apprehended by police the same day after passersby intervened to help the victim. - BERNAMA
