Police probe Terengganu election candidate for alleged criminal intent involving married woman

KUALA TERENGGANU - Terengganu cops are investigating a state election candidate under Section 498 of the Penal Code for enticing, taking away or detaining a married woman with criminal intent.

Terengganu Police Chief, Datuk Mazli Mazlan the investigation was carried out following a complaint filed on Aug 4 at the Kemaman District Police Headquarters.

Mazli said the investigation is currently underway and is expected to conclude soon before further action is taken.

"We have summoned the individual in question to provide a statement as part of our ongoing investigation," Mazlan told reporters at the Terengganu police headquarters.

However, Mazlan refrained from disclosing further details on the nature of the relationship between the complainant and the candidate as investigations are still underway.

If found guilty under Section 498 of the Penal Code, the candidate may face a penalty of up to two years of imprisonment, a fine, or both, as stipulated by the law.
