Early voting: Highest voter turnout in Kedah so far, says EC chairman

SHAH ALAM - Kedah has recorded the highest voter turnout in the first hour of the early voting day, today compared to the other five states which were also involved in the state elections.

Election Commission (EC) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh said the voter turnout differed between states but it was expected that there will be a high percentage of voter turnout, today.

"In Selangor, the voter turnout as of 10am is around 17 per cent.

"The highest early voter turnout so far is recorded in Kedah at 23 per cent.

"Based on my observation, there is good reception and I think there will be a high turnout rate overall," he said at a press conference at the Selangor Contingent Police Headquarters, here.

Abdul Ghani said the commission has tried its best to persuade the people to carry out their responsibility to vote and hoped that the numbers will be higher compared to the previous election.

In a related matter, Abdul Ghani said the EC would try its best to ensure that the election results were delivered as soon as possible.

"We are currently upgrading our system and expect all results to be announced by 1am," he said

He also noted that there have been no reports of unwanted incidents occurring and the state election campaigns have been getting better by the day.
