KULAI - MCA President Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong is confident that the party will remain relevant to help anyone.

As an established party, Wee said MCA has a reputation for assisting other parties and advocates for the principles of goodwill, unity, diversity, and the universal values it upholds.

"MCA has proven to be an influential party, and we have our philosophy. It doesn't matter that our friends already have other 'close friends'... that's fine, and it needs to be proven with time. We (Umno and MCA) have been together for a long time, 70 years, and it's not based on short-term interests only.

"There were times when we helped Barisan Nasional (BN) and our friends in the component.

"We believe in helping everyone as we are all part of one big family. The spirit of family is something precious, and we feel it is the true essence of BN that should be ingrained in the hearts of every supporter," he said at a press conference after completing the opening of the Johor State MCA Annual Convention on Sunday.

Wee was commenting on MCA's relationship with BN's component parties, especially Umno, which has recently started working with its former arch-nemesis, the Democratic Action Party, in the unity government.

Meanwhile, Wee said MCA has a solid party structure, especially in Johor.

He added that MCA has the potential to lead and pioneer upcoming movements based on its two parliamentary and seven state seats it holds.

"We have a pretty good party structure. There are two parliamentary and seven state seats, six from Johor (2/3).

"Therefore, Johor needs to pioneer or lead all movements to ensure Johor is always number one and prove party unity," he said.
