JELUTONG - Sungai Pinang candidate Lim Siew Khim has raised concerns about the guidelines for confinement care in Penang.

Speaking to Sinar Daily, Lim said that she is a mother of two and knows the importance of proper confinement care.

"The environment must be safe and clean

"Previously, confinement centres have been operating without licences and proper guidelines," she said.

Lim said that she has been fighting for proper guidelines for confinement care since she was the Sungai Pinang state assemblyman.

"Now, under the state government, we have come up with proper guidelines," she said.

The guidelines include requirements for cleanliness, room size, and the presence of a medical nurse.

Lim said that confinement care is often operated as a business without any professionalism.

"Most people are operating confinement care as a business since they think they can earn lots of money.

"They simply hire local people without any experience, and that is very bad," she explained.

Lim said that the guidelines were developed in consultation with experts and doctors.

"You have to make it in a professional and proper way as it involves the life of both mother and newborn baby," she stressed.

Lim said that she hopes that the guidelines will help to improve the quality of confinement care in Penang.
