'Last chance for Umno members to save the party' - Annuar
KUALA SELANGOR - Barisan Nasional (BN) former secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa calls on Umno members and supporters in the six election states to show their support for Perikatan Nasional (PN).
He said this is in order to save the party, which has contributed significantly to the country's development since before independence.
Annuar stated that there is only one way to restore Umno, which is through a people's referendum in the upcoming state election on Aug 12.
"This is the last opportunity for Umno members to save the party by participating in the people's referendum, even if it means seeing Umno lose, and only through a significant defeat can it be saved," he said while speaking at a ceramah in Mamba'ul Huda Tanjong Karang on Saturday night.
He said that if Umno continues to be given the mandate in these six state polls, he is concerned that the party will continue to serve as a tool for other parties.
When asked if he still loves Umno, Annuar said that every Malay who knows Umno's political history loves the party.
"People from Pas love Umno, and those who understand that the beginning of this nation's politics was brought to life by Umno.
"Then, we had differing opinions, leading to the birth of Pas and other parties.
"But the struggle of all these parties originates in Umno itself," he stated.
He clarified that Umno has the right foundation and struggles, but the current Umno leaders have caused the party to lose respect.
"So the people cannot wait for Umno, just like how I didn't wait for Umno because the party expelled me."
