The people of Bertam wants me, says Reezal

KEPALA BATAS – Former Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican was called to contest in the Bertam state seat after receiving 881 majority votes from the constituency during the 15th General Election (GE15).

Reezal contested in Kepala Batas parliamentary seat last year and lost to Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Siti Mastura Mohamad by a majority of 2,867 in a four-cornered fight. There are three state constituencies under the parliament, namely Penaga. Bertam and Pinang Tunggal.

He said the numbers from the Bertam constituency was a huge motivation for him to serve the people of here.

"Despite my loss in GE15, I can see that it's quite a good margin, in which I got 881 majority votes from Bertam voters.

"I was born and raised in Bertam. In fact, my parents' graves are here. If I’m not there, who else?" told Sinar Daily in an exclusive interview.

Reezal revealed that after his lost in GE15, there were people who approached him and expressed a sense of regret, remorse and a need for him to return and represent the area.

“Inside me, I only have a sense of redemption. I want to redeem my loss, " he added.

Reezal will be up against incumbent Khalib Mehtab Mohd Ishaq (PN-Bersatu) in the upcoming Penang state election on Aug 12.
