Not impossible for BN-PH to win state elections in six states

JOHOR BAHRU – It is not impossible for Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) to win in the state election in six states, next week.

This was based on the latest observation and evaluation.

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said based on the current situation, the two political coalitions can win, denying claims that Perikatan Nasional (PN) will win the state election in all six states involved.

"I have been to many states to campaign and I don't see them (PN) winning 6-0, it might be us who could win 6-0 or 5-1.

"Kelantan is a special state and we might be able to capture Kedah because Kedah is very unique (in politics).

"Kedah and Terengganu are 'swing states' (states that saw change in government). We lose if we 'swing' to the left, and we win if we 'swing' to the right. Follow the count (now) 'swing' right, Terengganu and Kedah.

“In Negeri Sembilan, Penang, and Selangor, the chances of winning the polls are bright,” he said at the Bursa Market Place Fair 2023 at the Persada International Convention Centre, here, tonight.

Also present were Bursa Malaysia chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, its chief executive officer Datuk Umar Swift and Head of Investor Development Stephanie Tan.

Ahmad said the outcome of the state elections will have no effect on the federal government, which now held 148 parliamentary seats and is governed by BN-PH and several other political parties.

In fact, he said even if the BN-PH coalition lost in the state elections in all six states on Aug 12, the federal government will remain unchanged.

He emphasised that even if PN wins, the federal administration will not change although 30 BN MPs were believed to support them.

"This is the message I want to convey to those involved in 'market sentiment' who claim that the unity government will fall if they win; this is not true.

"This is because the ones who want to make a mess are the 30 (MPs) from BN... Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) said that they will support (the unity government).... (If 30 BN MPs withdraw their support), there are still 118 (MPs who support and) the government is still standing," he explained.

Ahmad is convinced that the 30 MPs involved will not dare to do so because before becoming candidates, all MPs signed an agreement in November last year.

"This agreement states that if we leave, we must pay the party RM100 million.

“No one was willing to exit or wealthy enough to pay that much, thus no one wants to do it.

“So, regardless of the results of the state elections of the six states, the unity government will continue to win and become the government," he said.
