JOHOR BAHRU – A family of five, including three children, survived a fire in an apartment in Bandar Selesa Jaya, Skudai, here on Friday.

Skudai Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief senior assistant superintendent Saiful Bahri Safar said the incident occurred while the parents of the three children were not at home.

He said they received an emergency call about the incident at 3.37pm and it was reported that the children's father has left for work while their mother went to the shop.

"When the fire broke out, the parents of the children aged three, six and eight rushed home after hearing about the incident from their neighbours.

"The family of five managed to save themselves, and no one was injured," he said.

Following the incident, 15 personnel from the Skudai and Iskandar Puteri fire stations were deployed to the scene.

"Two fire engines and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) were also deployed to the scene," he said, today.

He said 80 per cent of a room on the third floor of the five-floor apartment was destroyed.

He said the cause of the fire and estimated losses incurred were still being investigated.

The operation ended at 4.56pm.
