Annuar Musa's son among those leaving Umno
ASWANY OMARKOTA BHARU - Afiq Amani, the Ketereh Division Umno Youth chief and son of Muafakat Nasional Chairman Tan Sri Annuar Musa, has departed from Umno and is now backing Perikatan Nasional (PN).
The announcement was made by Annuar at his residence on Friday. It is currently unclear if Afiq Amani will be joining Pas.
Also present at the press conference were Pas President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and Pas Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.
Meanwhile, Afiq Amani said he is taking a break from politics but will support PN.
He said he would inform the Umno leadership of the official decision as soon as possible.
According to him, Umno is no longer fighting the same battle and has failed to stand up for its allies.
"This is not a political gimmick because I cannot be fair to Umno if the party's struggle is not in line with me. This decision is the best for both parties.
"The decision is also not because of my father. I wasn't forced to rest (from politics) either," he said.
Afiq Amani added that Umno has been paying much attention to DAP.
"My spirit has disappeared, and I have not chosen any political party for now," he said.
Aside from Afiq Amani, other individuals who announced their departure from Umn include Ketereh Umno Women Chief Sabariah Hamzah, who is joining Pas.
