PRAGUE, Czech - A group of children have fallen from a roughly three-metre-high observation platform in the Czech Republic. Nine children, some with serious injuries, were taken to hospital by helicopters and ambulances, German news agency (dpa) quoted a police spokeswoman on Friday.

The incident occurred late on Thursday evening at sunset. The children, aged between eight and 13, were participating in a holiday camp.

The platform, called Triangel, is located in the village of Markvartice, near the border with Germany. The area is situated in the Bohemian Highlands, known for its distinctive cone-shaped mountains.

According to initial findings, the wooden platform likely gave way due to overload. The platform was designed to accommodate only four people, according to the village's statement. The police have launched an investigation into suspected negligent bodily harm. - BERNAMA
