SUNGAI PETANI - Caretaker Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has called on Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to submit evidence on the issues of rare earth elements (REE) to the court instead of the political stage.

Sanusi said there is no solid evidence shown by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Secretary General in the case so far, instead only building a narrative and perception of him during the state election campaign.

"He hasn't shown any evidence; he's building a narrative... he's making a perception. To show proof, you first need to have a case. But how to show evidence when there is no case in the first place?

"He doesn't have any proof; he doesn't have a case. If there is any evidence, he should bring it to court, not share it on the political stage," he said at a press conference on Thursday.

Earlier, Sanusi was campaigning with Perikatan Nasional's (PN) candidate for the Gurun seat, Baddrol Bakhtiar, at a programme in Medan Gurun jaya near here.

The PN elections director said Saifuddin's disclosure of the documents caused him to appear 'busted'.

"It's boring (to answer Saifuddin's question). Don't beat the drum and tell us to dance, do it yourself.

"He's been busted. People have been telling me for a long time that Su Lai Fat was here long before I became the MB. He didn't believe it. He said Su Lai Fat came in with me; it's not true," added Sanusi.

When Saifuddin challenged Sanusi to provide evidence that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had helped Indonesian businessman Mohammad Riza Chalid to apply to work on the REE, Sanusi cautioned against challenging him.

"It's a disaster for this country when a politician meddles in the affairs of a government department; he has a place where he sits, doesn't interfere in all the affairs of the department, but he wants to interfere.

"He has come to Kedah often in a month via a helicopter or plane. Why don't you sit at the Home Ministry, earning a salary of RM70,000 or RM80,000? Why are you so fixated on the REE when there are so many things you need to do at the ministry?" said Sanusi.
