SHAH ALAM - Former Klang MP Charles Santiago has expressed concern over Pas recent actions, which he said have been creating fear among non-Malays in Malaysia.

Santiago cited the recent incident in Kelantan where a Chinese woman was issued a compound for wearing shorts in public, as well as the lack of cinemas in Kelantan and the segregated seating in the only cinema in Terengganu, as examples of Pas's strict Islamic values and policies that have caused fear among non-Malays.

The 62-year-old former three-term Klang member of Parliament expressed highlighted Pas's compounding of a Chinese woman for wearing shorts in public has sparked concerns among non-Malays who allegedly view it as an infringement on individual freedom and cultural diversity.

"There are no cinemas in Kelantan.

"You force your idea of “haram” on the non-Malays and won’t allow for cinemas just because you believe moviegoers who are unrelated shouldn’t sit together.

"The only cinema in Terengganu has segregated seating for men, and women.

"Does it make provisions for non-Malays to sit together? What guarantee is there that Pas won’t impose Islamic values on everyone given the examples above?" he questioned.

On Wednesday, Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang was reported to have said during a ceramah in Penang that non-Malays did not need to fear Pas as Islam promotes justice and fairness.
