LANGKAWI - A local Class C fishing boat was detained during joint operations, Ops Aman and Ops Tiris in Langkawi Island yesterday for using an expired boat license.

The Director of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency for Kedah and Perlis, First Admiral Maritime Romli Mustafa said the Maritime Ship Sugut detained the fishing boat about 3.5 nautical miles east of Tanjung Pulau Chorong.

Further investigation revealed that two of the crew members were Thai nationals without valid work visit passes.

"As a result, we detained and brought the fishing boat and its crew to the Malaysia Maritime Jetty in Bukit Malut for further action," he said in a statement today..

Romli said that the case is being investigated under the Fisheries Act 1985 for violating the valid license condition.
