Two lorries plunged near bridge
TAPAH - Two lorries plunged approximately 15 meters from a bridge at KM336 of the North-South Expressway northbound near Tapah in an incident today.
Perak Police Chief, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, stated that the incident occurred at 7 a.m. and involved a container lorry and a courier company's lorry.
According to him, the incident is believed to have happened when the container lorry carrying groceries for a supermarket experienced a malfunction and had to stop on the emergency lane.
"The courier company's lorry from the same direction lost control and collided with the front right section of the container lorry, causing both vehicles to plunge down the bridge.
"As a result of the accident, the 24-year-old driver of the courier company's lorry suffered severe chest injuries and received treatment at Hospital Tapah, while the driver of the container lorry escaped injuries," he said in a media statement on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Mohd Yusri said the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Tapah District Police Headquarters has opened an investigation under Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 in connection with the incident.
He urged members of the public who have information about the accident to contact the Investigating Officer, Inspector P Prathiparaj, at 014-6178095 to assist in the investigation.
He also advised road users to be more cautious and considerate while driving vehicles to avoid accidents of this nature.
