BENTONG - Bentong police are hunting down a man suspected of robbing a durian stall assistant at gunpoint near the Benus industrial area on Wednesday.

Bentong district police chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar said in the incident at about 4.44pm, the victim was on duty at the stall when a Proton Wira car believed to be driven by a local man pulled over.

The suspect brandished a weapon resembling a pistol towards the 38-year-old foreign worker demanding the woman to hand over cash from the counter.

"The victim then handed over all the cash from the durian sale and the suspect fled in the same vehicle.

"Initial investigation found that the victim was working with a local man as an assistant at the stall," he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Zaiham said at the time of the incident, the victim was working alone and did not suffer any injuries.

He said losses involved a total of RM850.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery.

"We are working to track down the suspect in this case. The 26-second recording of the incident also went viral on social media," he said.

Meanwhile, Zaiham advised the public to be careful and aware of their safety.

"People who have information and witnessed this incident are asked to come forward and help the investigation by contacting the Bentong district police headquarters' control centre at 09-2222222 or go to the nearest police station," he said.
