Prison or fine for vehicle stopping beyond white line

KUALA LUMPUR - Road users who stop their vehicles over the white line can face imprisonment and fines.

Deputy Director of the Bukit AmanTraffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), Datuk Mohd Nasri Omar, stated that the White Line Operation is one of the operations conducted under the Traffic Rules Compliance Operation nationwide.

According to him, one of the regulations enforced is Regulation 38 of the Road Traffic Rules (LN166/1959), which states that vehicles are not allowed to stop on the crossing.

"It states that drivers cannot cause their vehicles or any part of it to stop within the crossing area unless they are prevented from moving due to circumstances beyond their control or if it is necessary for them to stop to avoid an accident.

"Any individual who commits an offense can be fined up to RM2,000 or imprisoned for a period not exceeding six months," he told Sinar Harian today.

He advised road users to comply with traffic rules and not stop beyond the white line as this action is one of the causes of traffic congestion apart from inviting accidents and disrupting other road users.

Therefore, JSPT advises all road users to always follow the established regulations.

"Ensure that traffic laws are adhered to without compromise," he said.

On July 28, Bukit Aman JSPT announced the implementation of six special operations to educate and raise awareness among road users.

The enforcement action for traffic compliance includes the Red Traffic Light Operation, Registration Number Operation, Traffic Obstruction Operation, White Line Operation, Illegal Parking Operation, and the educational campaign Operation Didik.

Through JSPT, the Royal Malaysia Police will enforce actions on all vehicle users nationwide to educate and raise awareness for compliance with traffic laws.
