Cops confirm two siblings who fell into fish pond died

SANDAKAN - The police have confirmed that two siblings, including a 10-year-old boy who were left unconscious after falling into a fish pond at Kampung Bambu Batu 7, here, yesterday, have died.

The victims who died at 12.40pm, the same day, were identified as Amira Rolan, 19, and her younger brother Muhammad Awira.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek said they received a report on the incident at 11.18am.

He said the report stated that the two victims who drowned were receiving treatment at the Duchess of Kent Hospital's Emergency Unit.

"Initial investigations revealed that the incident occurred at around 10am when the victims, along with four other family members were swimming in an abandoned fish pond in the village.

"While swimming, the two victims drowned but were rescued by villagers," he said in a statement, today.

Abdul Fuad stated that the two victims were later taken to the hospital by an ambulance.

"However, at 12.40pm, both victims, were pronounced dead while they were receiving treatment.
