Residents of Bukit Kecil apartment claim not much repairs done after landslide
KUALA TERENGGANU - It has already been almost year since a landslide occurred near the Bukit Kecil Apartment here, but until today, the residents claim that no large-scale repair work has been carried out by the authorities.
A resident, Hasnah Kasim, 65, said people in the area have raised various complaints urging the state government under Pas and the local authorities to take more drastic action but they seem to fall on deaf ears.
"At the time of the incident, all types of promises were made. If they really want to help solve the problem they would have done so long ago. But until today, the situation has remained the same, " she told Bernama when met today.
Hasnah, whose house is merely 50 metres from the hillslope said she gets anxiety attacks seeing large boulders at the hill top just waiting for the right time to roll downhill.
"There are several cars parked at the hillside area because of the limited space here. Furthermore, that’s where children will come out to play in the evenings. Something must be done fast before a disaster strikes, "said Hasnah who has lived here for the past 15 years.
Meanwhile, apartment owner Laili Ramli, 41, said the excuse given by the authorities that nothing can be done due to the movement of soil and rocks at the affected area, was completely illogical.
"They are not taking this matter seriously. Apart from using canvas sheets, they just laid concrete over the road near the affected area. We are fearful because the monsoon season is nearing and anything untoward can happen," she said.
A check by Bernama at the site found only canvas sheets were installed to prevent risk of further landslide, but it could be seen that the sheets have worn and may no longer be able to function effectively. - BERNAMA
