DAP-BN state manifesto pledges to protect Penangites, instil harmony, housing and financial aid

BUTTERWORTH - The Penang unity government tonight revealed their state elections manifesto with 16 main themes to develop the island with focus on the people's welfare, championing socio-economic development and continuing the advancement of Islamic principles.

It also promises to fight for the rights of Penangites, housing for all and harmony within different races and religions.

Penang DAP leader Zairil Khir Johari made the announcement, here tonight at Butterworth Arena and further pledged for food security and better traffic flow.

The manifesto also included financial aid for for the B40 community, special housing rental scheme and allocation for schools.

"Some of the highlights of manifesto are assistance of RM1,000 for the B40 group.

"Providing assistance of RM600 per year to e-hailing drivers and personal accident insurance for p-hailing (motorcycle) riders.

"Continuing assistance of RM600 per year to taxi and school bus drivers.

Allocating RM60 million for school aid by 2030," said Zairil.

During the launch which was attended by top Penang leaders from DAP and Barisan Nasional, Zairil said they will also introduce a special rental housing scheme for the youths.

DAP has had significant influence in Penang after it took over from Gerakan in 2008.

However, the main opposition coalition, Perikatan Nasional has been playing the race-based card. To deter this Barisan Nasional aims to counter PN's influence by strategically placing candidates in Malay belt seats.

Penangites vote on Aug 12.
