Will 'YBae' Khaliq's good looks help him win the election?
KEPALA BATAS - Perikatan Nasional (PN) Bertam candidate Khaliq Mehtab has urged voters to look beyond his good looks and focus on his qualifications and commitment to serving the people.
Khaliq's comments came after a video of him walking into the nomination centre went viral on social media for his dashing looks.
The video has been viewed over 700,000 times.
"I am shocked to see my video go viral.
"I have been focused on serving the people here since 2018. Good looking, that's very subjective. It depends on the people who look at me. I think besides looking good, the most important thing is the quality of the candidate, right?," Khaliq told Sinar Daily.
Khaliq said that voters should focus on the candidate's track record, their ability to do the job, and their commitment to the people.
"Make sure that the candidate is a clean candidate. He can do his work well, and he's committed to his people. That's more important than just good looks. Their commitment is number one," he said.
Khaliq's comments have been met with mixed reactions on social media. Some people have praised him for his humility, while others have accused him of being a strategist.
One twitter user, Ainanino, said "ni bukan YB, ni YBae" (This is not YB, this is YBae).
Khaliq Mehtab will be in a straight fight against Barisan Nasional heavyweight Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican for the Bertam state seat.
Earlier today, Reezal expressed that good looks are not a big deal in Kepala Batas; it's the sincerity and dedication to work that matter the most.
Reezal also affirmed that the people of Kepala Batas do not prioritise good looks as a primary criteria in electing their representatives.
