Pas claims Umno will backstab when in power
SEREMBAN - Pas Deputy President Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man warns that Umno will betray its friends when the party gains power.
He gave an example of the withdrawal of support for Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin when he was Prime Minister and Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu when he was Perak Menteri Besar.
"Umno cannot win, if they win they will be big-headed. When they feel strong, they will start to backstab. In Perak, they withdrew support, voted no-confidence againstPeja (Ahmad Faizal) from Bersatu, and finally changed the (Menteri Besar) to someone from Umno.
"At the federal level (they) pull support for Muhyiddin Yassin, even though we are in the same Cabinet, when we should have discussed together.
“We face difficult times (together), when we are comfortable, 15 people (members of Parliament) pulled their support from Muhyiddin," he said during the ‘Kito Ubah's Nismilan’ talk in Lenggeng on Monday.
The Kubang Kerian Member of Parliament said that Pas was the only party that helped even though it had criticised Umno.
"It's not easy, remember what happened at the WTC (World Trade Center) building, there were tears of joy when the two largest Malay parties could sit together through Muafakat Nasional.
"That's why when Umno lost, Pas went to help the campaign in the Rantau by-election. I talked to Tok Mat (Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan) while before this we cricitised Umno, but in the end I told everyone to support Umno," he said.
For the record, Muhyiddin was appointed as Prime Minister following the Sheraton move in February 2020, which caused the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government led by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to fall after 22 months in power.
However, Muhyiddin held office for 17 months before Umno MPs withdrew their support and the government was led by Perikatan Nasional (PN).
