Police open investigation paper over Fahmi's speech in mosque

SERDANG - The police have opened an investigation paper on the alleged political speech made by Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil at the main prayer hall of the Nurul Yaqin mosque in Kampung Melayu Seri Kundang, Rawang on Sunday.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said that the police have received a recording of Fahmi's alleged speech.

He said the police were examining the recording and will give their feedback soon.

"Fahmi's speech at the scene has been received and will be looked into thoroughly.

"The police will investigate this case under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Multimedia Communications Act," he said in a press conference, today.

He said this after attending the seventh anniversary parade of the Sime Darby Property Berhad (SDPB) Auxiliary Police (AP) unit at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

Also present were SDPB group managing director Datuk Azmir Merican, Selangor deputy police chief Datuk Sasikaladevi, UPM deputy vice-chancellor (industry and community relations) Professor Dr Hang Tuah Baharudin and the Malaysian Auxiliary Police Association president Mohd Razali Abd Aziz.

Meanwhile, commenting further on the campaigning process in conjunction with the state polls in Selangor, Hussein said a total of 16 police reports had been received so far.

He said out of that number, seven investigation papers have been opened because they involved vandalistic acts such as tearing up candidates' posters and damaging flags.
