GEORGETOWN - Police have been urged to investigate Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin following his speech that touched on the 3R (race, religion, and royalty) during the state election ceramah on Sunday.

The ceramah in Kapar, Klang, saw Muhyiddin claiming the 'Allah' word issue showed the Unity government is now led by non-Muslims.

Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid described the former prime minister's claims as nonsense and baseless.

She had also lodged a police report so that an investigation could be initiated on Muyiddin immediately.

"Muhyiddin's statement clearly goes against the warning of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain that all political parties must refrain from using 3R issues in the ceramah during the state election campaigning period.

"Muhyiddin himself has never released a statement that he and PN will not play up on such issues, but yesterday (Sunday) he used the issue of the Allah word in his ceramah," she said in a press conference in Wisma DAP here on Monday.

Syerleena said Muhyiddin's actions showed the PN's top leadership was a hypocrite and not sensitive to the 3R issues.

"This was hypocritical behaviour by PN when they themselves use the 3R issues during elections. Their intentions are nothing more than to create hatred and fear among voters for PH.

"I feel that the matter could not be left unchecked; therefore, I have lodged a police report at the Timur Laut district police headquarters to enable the police to investigate this in accordance with Section 505 of the Penal Code and the Sedition Act," she said.

DAP legal advisor RSN Rayer said Muhyiddin's statement was clearly made to instill fear in Malay voters about voting for PH.

He said Muhyiddin had allegedly released the false statements to poison the minds of voters in all six states facing the elections.

Penang Amanah secretary Mohd Saifullah Abd Nasir criticised Muhyiddin's actions, which clearly show the dry spell of ideas to be used in the ceramah while campaigning.

"I would like all political parties in all six states to continue focusing on what can be offered to the people. The fearmongering campaign makes it clear that PN has no more ideas.

"They have reverted to their old tricks of using fear to make the Malays scared and saying that they would be left out if PH governs. I want to remind PN: don't think that Malays are stupid and uneducated.

"They now have information and will not be swayed or follow any cheap agendas spread by PN," he said.

A portal reported Muhyiddin claiming that the Unity government was governed by 'non-Muslims, following no appeal in court on the Allah issue.

Muhyiddin said that while he was the Home Minister, he claimed he had received pressure from the DAP not to appeal.

It was reported previously that the Home Ministry and government would withdraw the appeal to the High Court that Christians could use the Allah word and three Arabic words, Baitullah, Kaabah, and Solat, in the printing of their religious study materials.

It stated that the ministry and the government were not interested in continuing the appeal filed on March 12, 2021, and stopped the appeal process entirely without any order towards costs.

It followed the decision of the High Court on March 10, 2021, which granted the judicial review application of the Christian woman Jill Ireland Lawrence Bill, who requested a declaration of her constitutional rights regarding the use of the Allah word in religious publications.
