SEBERANG JAYA – Pakatan Harapan's Seberang Jaya candidate, Johari Kassim has pledged to prioritise the needs of the urban poor in the constituency if elected in the upcoming state election on August 12.

During a walkabout with the Chinese community at Gelanggang Bola Keranjang Akira, Jalan Tenggiri, Johari said his commitment to further develop the area, especially its facilities and infrastructure development implemented under the unity government.

"I have served a lot here. I know this place is densely populated. However, during the administration of the unity government, we can see that many facilities have been built here.

"If I am elected, I will continue this progress, especially when I see this area actually has many urban poor and we will focus on helping, that’s my promise," Johari said during his walkabout.

Johari also touched on the poor hygiene conditions in some flats and vowed to address this problem through meetings with resident representatives.

He said repainting work was needed on some of the flats.

Johari acknowledged the importance of his relationship with the federal government and expressed his hope of gaining the support of the 22 per cent Chinese community in Seberang Jaya.

In the state election, Johari will be facing his rival, Izhar Shah Arif Shah, from Perikatan Nasional (PN), who is also the son of former Seberang Jaya assemblyman from Barisan Nasional (BN), Datuk Arif Shah Omar Shah, who previously held the seat for two terms from 2004 to 2013.
