Father's death does not hamper PH efforts to retain Sidam seat- Candidate
SUNGAI PETANI - Bau Wong Bau Ek, the PKR candidate for Sidam in the Kedah state election on Aug 12, does not see his father’s death recently hampering the efforts of Pakatan Harapan (PH) to retain the seat.
He said he would not cancel or reschedule the campaign events.
"I have lost my father but I respect the campaign machinery and also the schedule that has been arranged. I can't cancel (the events) because we have to respect the efforts they have made," he said after greeting traders at the Sungai Petani Market, here.
Bau Wong’s father, Bau Ek Endin Soon, died on July 29 of complications from shingles and measles. He was 87.
Bau Wong said the PH campaign in the constituency has been well received by the electorate.
He said that though Sidam was regarded as a PKR stronghold, he would not take it easy but would meet as many electors as possible to hear their grievances.
"Defending a seat is more difficult than trying to win one. There is indeed a little pressure but with the machinery we have and the preparations we have made, I think we can do our best," he said.
Bau Wong said the grievances raised by the electorate could be resolved once he becomes the assemblyman.
"The problems raised involve infrastructure such as roads and drains. These can be resolved,” he said.
In the last election, Robert Ling Kui Ee won the seat for PH with a majority of 10,860 votes. He beat Nur Hidayah Foo Abdullah (PAS), Tan Kok Seong (BN) and Mohd Hashim Saaludin (PRM). - BERNAMA
