BAYAN LEPAS - Gerakan's President, Datuk Dominic Lau, acknowledges the existence of misunderstandings among Perikatan Nasional's (PN) component parties in Pulau Pinang, but he assures that they will address the issues promptly.

As a candidate for the Bayan Lepas state seat, Dominic points out that the differences in perspectives arise from the grassroots level up to the central levels of the party.

He stresses that they will work to resolve these internal matters and improve communication between component parties.

"There is a slight misunderstanding within the components of the Perikatan Nasional party in Penang because all proposals and opinions at the branch, division, state, and central levels have different perspectives.

"We will try to address the differing opinions. We hope that all parties will be able to accept and assist PN because our main objective is to ensure PN's victory in Penang," he said during a walkabout programme at a flat in Jalan Kolam Ikan.

Earlier, Dominic's nomination for the Bayan Lepas State Assembly faced protests from members of the Pas Bayan Lepas division, and they threatened to boycott the nomination for the upcoming state polls.

Moreover, questions were raised when his name was not officially announced during PN Penang's candidate nomination by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's Deputy President, Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee.

Initially, the Bayan Lepas seat was given to Pas, with their Penang Pas Secretary, Iszuree Ibrahim, as the candidate.

Dominic clarified that he had been in contact with Iszuree through Whatsapp before the candidate nomination.

Despite the initial differences, Dominic stated that members of Pas Bayan Lepas supported him during his campaign series.

He clarified that the Pas machinery was present during the candidate nomination, and while they may have yet to follow him on the campaign trail, it doesn't imply a lack of support.

Dominic highlighted that various component parties, NGOs, and other non-political groups have received support.

On the support from the Malay community in Bayan Lepas, Dominic mentioned that during his two days of campaigning, the response from the Malay residents has been positive.

He has received support for PN, and voters are starting to recognise him as the Bayan Lepas candidate.

Dominic remains optimistic and will continue his efforts to gain support from all voters in the area.
