SUNGAI PETANI - Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for Gurun, Mohammed Firdaus Johari, is determined to continue his formula of 'service politics' to help the people should he be given the mandate in the coming Kedah state election.

He said he had been using the formula for the past five years in ensuring the welfare of the people in the Gurun constituency.

Mohammed Firdaus, who is Jerai PH chairman, said that his regular visits to the constituency helped him to better understand the problems facing the people in Gurun,.

"I have been behind the scene helping them since (my father) Tan Sri Johari Abdul was given the mandate as Gurun Assemblyman and Sungai Petani Member of Parliament in 2018.

"That has been my job and now comes the election campaign, we will intensify and improve existing programmes. We lessen playing politics and focus on community service politics," he told Bernama recently.

Being nominated for the seat once held by his father, Mohammed Firdaus said he is committed to pursuing his father's aspirations.

Meanwhile, he denied that he was chosen as a candidate for Gurun due to nepotism.

"I was elected based on the trust of the (PKR) president (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim),” he said.

Mohammed Firdaus, whose brother, Mohammed Taufiq is Sungai Petani Member of Parliament, will be in a straight fight with Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate, former Kedah football player Baddrol Bakhtiar for the Gurun state seat. - BERNAMA
