KUALA TERENGGANU - The Terengganu police have taken steps to expedite the permit approval process for ceramah during the state election campaigns.

The application period, which used to take five days, has been shortened to just two days.

Terengganu police chief Datuk Mazli Mazlan explained that the decision to speed up the permit approval process was aimed at facilitating the smooth running of the state poll.

He said the application must be submitted before holding the ceramah but acknowledged that some parties had applied after the nomination day.

Mazli Mazlan expressed confidence in the parties contesting, stating that they have been operating for an extended period and are well-versed in the country's laws.

"I expect the political parties to adhere to regulations, ensuring a hassle-free and incident-free election process," he said during an inspection at the Kuala Terengganu Parliament and Ladang state assembly nomination centre.

On another matter, Mazli revealed that about 2,200 personnel have been assigned to monitor and maintain security at 32 nomination centres throughout the state.

He reported that the atmosphere at several nomination centres around Kuala Terengganu and Marang was peaceful, with supporters and leaders adhering to all regulations.
