Good friends, now foes: Azmin vs Juwairiya for Hulu Kelang

GOMBAK - Former Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali will be up against former comrade Juwairiya Zulkifli for the Hulu Kelang state seat in the Selangor state election.

The straight fight between Perikatan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan, respectively, was announced as election candidates after the Dewan Mutiara Bestari nomination centre closed at 10am today.

Returning officer Khairul Aizawati Khalid confirmed that she received two nomination papers from both Azmin at 9.03am and Juwairiya at 9.15am.

She said after reviewing the documents, none were disqualified.

Clad in a bun baju melayu, Azmin was among the first to arrive at the nomination centre.

The PN Selangor chairman arrived at 8.30am along with the other two PN candidates for Sungai Tua and Gombak constituencies, accompanied by PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Arau MP Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim.

Juwairiya, meanwhile, arrived at the nomination centre at 9.06am accompanied by Unity Government leaders including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and caretaker Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amiruddin Shari, who is contesting for Sungai Tua seat.

Also seen at the centre were Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Titiwangsa MP Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Kinabatangan MP Datuk Seri Bung Mokhtar Radin, MCA leader Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon, former foreign minister Tan Sri Anifah Aman and former education minister Maszlee Malik.
