SEBERANG PERAI - The spotlight is on the youth supporters of independent candidate David Marshall, a former DAP member, who is set to contest the Perai state seat in the upcoming Penang state election.

With a decade of dedicated service as a counselor, David exudes confidence in his chances of securing the seat, expressing strong belief in victory.

As the electoral race gains momentum, David Marshall's decision to contest as an independent candidate adds a new dynamic to the political landscape in Perai.

In an exclusive interview with Sinar Daily, David expressed his gratitude to his supporters, claiming they outnumbered the Perikatan Nasional (PN) supporters at Dewan Al-Azim, Kolej Vokasional Seberang Prai nomination centre.

His supporters arrived as early as 7.30am, and the area was closely monitored by police officers for crowd control.

"I am thrilled; in fact, my supporters outnumber PN supporters.

"In addition to Perai, I work with youth across Malaysia. I am the founder of a non-government organisation, namely the Malaysian Tamilar Kural, at the national level, which focuses on youth development and addresses Indian youth issues, including gangsterism.

"This could be the main reason why the youth stand with me," he shared with a beaming smile.

In the Perai state seat, David will compete against three other candidates, namely Datuk Seri S Sundarajoo from Pakatan Harapan (PH), Sivasuntaram Rajalinggam from PN, and Vikneswary Harikrishnan from the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda).

He further elaborated that he is unfazed by the Muda candidate's challenge and believes that he can gain significant support from the youth in Perai.

"I don't mind the Muda candidate. In fact, all three (PH, PN, and Muda) are new faces in Muda. But I'm not. I have been working here for 10 years as a counselor.

"They will know me better than other candidates," he confidently declared.

The nomination centre witnessed candidates from various political parties submitting their nomination forms during the allocated hour (9 am to 10 am).

As the election approaches, Perai becomes a battleground for these candidates, each striving to win the hearts of the electorate and secure their place in the state legislature.

The competition is likely to intensify as they present their visions for the future of Perai and vie for the voters' trust and support.
