KOTA BHARU - The police detained two men in separate raids, and drugs worth RM53,650 were seized in a series of operations codenamed Op Tapis Narkotik.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said the first suspect was arrested at 9.30am on Thursday after a team of narcotics police from the Kuala Krai police district headquarters (IPD) raided a house in Kampung Lata Rek, Kuala Krai.

The senior cop said the man attempted to escape during the raid but was arrested after a struggle.

A search at the premises found 100 "pil kuda", also known as Ya Ba pills- a synthetic drug of the Amphetamine-Type Stimulants (ATS), and 34.2 grammes of heroin with an estimated value of RM4,150.

Muhamad Zaki said the suspect is under remand for seven days starting Thursday for further investigation under Section 39B, Section 15(1)(a) and Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He added that the police also detained another man in a separate case at a house in Taman Wira Jaya, Lubuk Jong Pasir Mas, at 1.50am on Friday.

Muhamad Zaki said a police team spotted a blue Perodua Myvi car in a suspicious condition with the motorist's side window open.

"Aware of the presence of the police, the man in question acted to reverse the vehicle he was riding in at high speed before hitting the front of the police car.

He added that an inspection of the vehicle where the man was riding found a transparent plastic package containing syabu-type drugs estimated to weigh 1,790.45 grammes with a seized value of RM49,500.

"The 21-year-old suspect has two previous drug-related offences and tested positive for methamphetamine.

"The suspect was remanded for seven days starting Friday (today) for investigation under Section 39B and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act," he said.
