KUALA LUMPUR - With an aim help Malaysians struggling with the rising cost of living, Lotus’s Malaysia introduced #LotussLebihMurah, an initiative to offer permanent low prices for over 3500 grocery items.

Customers can enjoy low prices through this initiative across 66 Lotus’s stores in Peninsular Malaysia, Lotus’s Shop online, Lotus’s official marts on foodpanda, Grab, Shopee and Lazada..

Lotus’s Malaysia executive director (customer) Vivian Yap said more than 3500 lines, particularly grocery, have marked down prices.

"The discount can range from 5 per cent to 37 per cent depending on the line.

"Grocery lines, including such things as rice, infant milk for babies, diapers and household essentials would be discounted.

"The prices have gone up due to many circumstances, such as the geopolitical situation, which causes shortages in transportation, logistics and labour costs.

"For example, we sold chicken drumsticks for RM1, which created high demand.

"We are trying to bring these and create prices every week by bringing that through on fresh offers," she told reporters at the Lotus’s Kepong Product Assessment Centre here during the press conference.

She added that among Lotus’s branded products, 90 per cent of them were created by small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) with over 3,000 lines across food and non food.

"The prices are affordable, and they will be 15 per cent to 20 per cent lower compared to national brands.

"At Lotus’s Malaysia, the food court also offers Menu Rahmah RM5 with different vendors.

"We are giving a 10 per cent discount on key ingredients to food vendors who are offering Menu Rahmah on this as we understand they need to run their businesses and can't afford it if the prices are higher.

"In that way, we are helping the community as well," she expressed.

Commenting further, Lotus’s Malaysia head of trading law and technical Jaynie Lim said all suppliers are required to go through food safety checks before being distributed to Lotus’s Malaysia.

"We will have to go through with the product quality, hygiene products and food regulations.

"As many of our customers are Muslims, they must be halal certified by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim).
