KOTA BHARU - Perikatan Nasional (PN) has made history in the countdown to the Kelantan state election by nominating more than 51 per cent of new faces for the upcoming election.

Out of the 45 candidates listed, 23 are young and considered 'new faces', consisting of professionals and corporate executives.

Pas vice-president, Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah stated that all the candidates listed would be groomed for the party's future.

"The selection of said candidates is a transition process for the party to move forward. There should have been more changed but the rest have no experience.

"We, as the seniors, will groom and guide these new candidates," he told reporters here yesterday.

He added that five new faces out of those candidates are legal practitioners.

"All five are also young and placed in the professional category," he said.

Mohd Amar explained that their selection was based on their involvement in the party and being accepted at the state legislative assembly level, rather than based on their careers.

"We don't have a specific quota related to candidates' careers. It is a coincidence that all of them have a background in law," he said.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) state chairman Datuk Ahmad Yakob announced that all 45 candidates involving 39 candidates are from Pas while the other six are from Bersatu.

The five new face candidates in the field of law are Nik Asma' Baharum Nik Abdullah (Chempaka), Zameri Mat Nawang (Jelawat), Zubir Abu Bakar (Mengkebang), Ahmad Zakhran Mat Noor (Kemuning) and Wan Rohimi Wan Daud (Melor).
