Senior civil servants' involvement in corruption worrisome, says Azam
Roshkhoirah YahyaSHAH ALAM - The involvement of Grade 54 civil servants in corruption is not only worrisome but also indicates an unhealthy trend compared to 10 years ago.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Tan Sri Azam Baki said these cases usually involve politicians, state leaders, lawyers and other individuals.
"In the past, there were only one or two cases, but now, it has become a norm and it is quite alarming when corrupt recipients are also found among Grade 54 government officers.
"Investigating these high-profile cases is not the same because they are rather difficult and complex, especially in proving the occurrence of corruption. It requires great precision," Azam said.
He said this at Tamu Kito program on NEGERIfm's Official Facebook page, today.
Citing an example where an Jusa C government officer took bribes amounting to RM100,000 or RM200,000 but the investigation became more challenging when multiple parties were involved.
"In high-profile cases, there are multiple layers involved, requiring painstaking identification of everyone associated with the case to confirm their receipt of the money."
He said of the covil servants use proxies who do not exist with some resorting to money laundering.
"But we will keep on searching for all the laundered money until they go into bankruptcy again." Azam said.
