15 reports of vandalism against flags, banners received, says state police chief

PETALING JAYA - The police received 15 reports for vandalising banners and state election flags in Selangor.

Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said five reports were from Kuala Selangor, two from Subang Jaya and one each from Gombak and North Klang.

He said six investigation papers have been opened in connection with these treacherous acts.

"Five investigation papers are being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code, and one is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code for treachery using fire," he said during a press conference at Petaling Jaya Civic Hall here.

Also present was Deputy Selangor Police Chief, Datuk Sasikaladevi.

Hussein said 13,043 personnel will be deployed during Selangor state elections.

He added that out of this number, around 2,200 cops out of Selangor will be involved, assisted by other agencies such as the Malaysia Volunteers Corps.

A total of 27 hotspots have been identified, including in Kuala Selangor, Shah Alam, Kuala Langat, Ampang, Klang, Serdang and Sungai Buloh, he said.

Hussein said the police has also identified 56 potential locations where clashes might occur.

He added that several units under the police such as the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU), Light Strike Force (LFS) and Public Order Riot Unit (Poru) will be on standby throughout the election period.

"The strength of the police in Selangor for this state election is more than sufficient," he said.

Meanwhile, he added that 37 roads across 12 districts in Selangor will be closed on the nomination day this Saturday.

He said the closure would begin from 6am to 12pm.
