No issue of 'running away' from Bukit Antarabangsa - Azmin
PETALING JAYA - Selangor Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has denied allegations that he is 'running away' from defending the Bukit Antarabangsa state seat in the upcoming election on Aug 12.
The former Selangor MB said the Hulu Kelang State Legislative Assembly was the first state seat he held, previously.
"Hulu Kelang was the first seat I held and I received the people's mandate since 1999. When I was the Gombak MP for three terms from 2008, Hulu Kelang was a part of the Gombak Parliament.
"So there was not issue of running from one area to another, because as the leadership we must provide the service needed by the people," he told reporters after the Selangor PN candidate announcment ceremony at Taman Medan.
Azmin who was former Gombak MP was expected to not defend the Bukit Antarabangsa state seat he won since 2008.
PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin when announcing the names of the candidates confirmed that Azmin would not be fielded to contest in the seat and instead will contest in Hulu Kelang.
The former investment, trade and industry minister became the Hulu Kelang assemblyman in 1999, but he lost in 2004 to a Barisan Nasional candidate.
PN announced that a total of 56 candidates will contest in the Selangor polls on Aug 12. - AWANI
