Kedah state polls: Sanusi to defend Jeneri

ALOR SETAR - Caretaker Kedah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sanusi Md Nor will be defending his Jeneri seat in the upcoming state polls next month, Perikatan Nasional (PN) announced.

Sanusi, who is also the coalition's Election Director, will face Barisan Nasional Sik Umno chief Datuk Muhamad Khizri Abu Kassim on August 12.

The announcement was made at Wednesday's Kedah PN Candidate Announcement Ceremony at the Pas Kedah Complex.

PN has previously unanimously named Sanusi the Kedah Mentri Besar candidate if the party maintains its power in Kedah.

In the 14th General Election, Muhammad Sanusi won the Jeneri state assembly seat with a majority of 2,455 votes.

He defeated his rivals at the time, Mahadzir Abdul Hamid (BN-Umno) and Mohd Nazri Abu Hassan (PH-PPBM).

Sanusi has recently become a controversial figure due to his outspokenness, which some believe lacks sensitivity towards certain issues.

He is facing charges framed under Section 4(1)(A) of the Sedition Act for allegedly making seditious remarks that could incite disloyalty towards the Rulers when giving a political speech last month. - AWANI
