BAGAN SERAI - A four-year-old boy survived a near-death situation after he unknowingly slept on a cobra in an incident in Taman Serai Perdana on Monday.

In a 19-second video that went viral on social media, a black snake lay under the child's body while its tail was stepped on by the boy, who is believed to be lying down on the floor in his babysitter's house.

It is understood that the babysitter, who became aware of the presence of the reptile, persuaded the child not to make any movement until the arrival of the fire and rescue department.

The Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Perak director, Sayani Saidon, said the distress call about the incident was received at 11.28am.

"Upon arrival at the location, the department officers found the child lying down on a 400-metre-long cobra.

"One officer caught the snake while another lifted the victim," he said when contacted here on Wed.

Sayani said no injuries were found on the victim after a physical examination, which was conducted, and the boy was handed back to the carer.

"The snake was released back to its original habitat, far from human presence," he said.
