Pas disputes action on using government premises for campaigns
KUALA TERENGGANU – Terengganu Pas regrets the actions of some parties who allegedly used government premises, especially schools, to campaign in conjunction with state elections and by-elections.
Pas Terengganu Deputy Commissioner Datuk Dr Alias Razak said that these actions conflicted with the previous ban that did not allow the use of government premises for campaigning purposes.
"I was surprised when I saw pictures on social media of a BN political campaigner entering a school and speaking in front of children believed to be Form Six students.
"I would like to remind everyone regarding the statement made by Communications and Multimedia Minister Fahmi Fadzil that using government agencies for political campaign purposes is prohibited.
"Is this also a form of misuse of government premises during the state polls period that will be held soon," he told reporters at a press conference at the Pas office here on Wednesday.
In the same development, Alias also questioned the qualifications of a political campaigner to allow an individual to enter an educational institution.
"Everyone already knows that the political campaigner is quite active in politics at the moment, so I'm a bit surprised why the BN campaigner can get into the school so easily.
"What qualifications or credentials does that BN political campaigner have to enter an educational institution," he said.
In the meantime, Alias also mentioned about the Federal government's programme implemented in Terengganu which was perceived as excluding the participation of the state government.
"I would like to touch on the Madani Afiat programme that was implemented a few days ago. This programme is very good, when nurses go out on the field to meet people and (make house calls) do medical checks and treatments at home.
What is regrettable, he said, was the involvement of BN political figures who make the programme appear like government machinery was being used instead for a political party.
"Why is this programme not relayed to the state government to participate in as well because what is happening will create an unhealthy gap between the state government and the federal government," he said.
In addition, Alias claimed that he understood that there were politicians wearing clothes symbolising the identity of a party accompanying health workers when the programme was implemented.
"If it's true, I feel it shouldn't happen because it seems to depict public servants are being used by political parties," he said.
Last Sunday, the Madani Afiat & One Hour Malaysia Clean Up Program at Terengganu State Level 2023 was held at the Padang Hiliran People's Housing Program, in Kuala Terengganu. It was attended by the Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa.
On the same day, there was a gathering for Madani Heirs Programme at Sultan Mahmud Science High School (SESMA) in Kuala Nerus which was attended by Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.
