SHAH ALAM - Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has no intention to offend non-Muslims in one of his recent speeches.

In saying this, Pas committee member Dr Halimah Ali who is also the Kapar MP, also apologised for the contentious statement towards non-Muslims and non-Malays.

"I have to apologise if that was meant to make the non-Malays and non-Muslims unhappy about it, but I don’t think he meant what he said," she said on the BFM Radio Podcast programme recently.

Dr Halimah also added that the Marang MP was not used to mingling with different cultures.

In his quest to understand other cultures better, Halimah shared that Hadi celebrated Chinese New Year last year wearing red Chinese attire.

On Jan 21, Hadi wished all Malaysians who are celebrating a Happy Chinese New Year via Twitter.

In the Twitter thread, he shared that Islam really respects and cares for interracial relations and treats people fairly regardless of race and religion.

"Each nation has its own advantages and expertise that can be used well to develop Malaysia," Hadi wrote.

Dr Halimah was responding to a statement made by Hadi recently in his opinion piece, where he said non-Muslims should be grateful for being given a place in the country as not all countries offer such chances.

He had also claimed that non-Muslims were the cause of corruption in Malaysia.
