SHAH ALAM - All political parties are not allowed to put up campaign materials in premises and electrical installation areas owned by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).

TNB Distribution Network Chief Officer Wan Nazmy Wan Mahmood said the matter is prohibited due to the materials such as posters, flags, banners and others would interfere with maintenance works.

"This prohibition includes placing or hanging any items on transmission towers, utility poles, supply boxes, substations, concrete electricity poles and overhead lines.

"The public is advised not to grab, carry or install any flags on the transmission towers including flags made from bamboo as it could cause a shock to those near it," he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Wan Nazmy said the dangerous activities were against Section 37 of the Electricity Supply Act 1990 (Act 447) that was to disturb, impede or damage electrical installations.

He said he would cooperate with the Election Commission (EC) and authorities to take down the campaign materials that were at risk of causing problems to users.

He urged for the cooperation of all parties to avoid works on digging in the lands to prevent the risk of disturbing electrical cables, preventing the possibility of electrical disruption due to damage.

"This action could be dangerous as there is a risk of shock. It may cause electrical disturbance to important premises throughout the election period such as candidate nomination centres, polling centres and official vote tallying centres.
