SHAH ALAM - Pas reminds its members that those who contest as independent candidates may be subject to strict action including dismissal from the party.

This, its president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said was because the action was considered a breach of the party's discipline.

"All the names (candidates) are sent to the centre, the candidates are managed by the ulama council and we consider which candidates we want to choose.

"The important thing is they must adhere to the party's discipline. If it is not followed, automatically you will be fired," he said at the 'Bicara Negarawan dan Agamawan untuk Rakyat Malaysia' Town Hall programme at the i-City Convention Centre, here, yesterday.

Also present was former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Hadi was commenting on the Tasek Gelugor Pas Youth Council's statement urging Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan) president Datuk Dominic Lau to step down and not contest in the Malay majority Tasek Gelugor seat during the Penang state election on Aug 12.

Earlier, Tasek Gelugor Pas Youth Council Youth deputy chief Mohamad Ikhwan Afiq Mohamad Anwar was reported to have said that his party would mobilise the entire machinery to march in a large scale as an independent candidate if Lau still insisted on being a candidate in the Malay majority area.

He explained that a similar movement will also be carried out for the Permatang Berangan state assembly if a candidate from Bersatu was contesting the seat.
