SHAH ALAM - Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has challenged Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to show evidence of wrongdoing if he wants to accuse him of stealing money or assets from the people.

Dr Mahathir said that Anwar has been making accusations against him for many years, but he has never produced any evidence to support his claims.

"Anwar has said that he has evidence in abundance, but he has never shown it to me. He has said that he will show it, but when I asked to see it, he said he can't, it's a secret," Dr Mahathir said during the Townhall programme "Bicara Negarawan dan Agamawan untuk Rakyat Malaysia" at the i-City Convention Centre, i-City Central Walk today.

"If you have evidence, show it to me. Show me that I stole money because we know when someone steals money, they will be brought to court, prosecuted, and imprisoned.

"If I stole money, show it clearly that I stole money, and you can take me to court for a trial," he said.

On Monday, the media reported that Anwar warned a political leader to either return the alleged stolen assets or be prepared to face an investigation.

The Prime Minister said he would instruct the authorities to investigate if the leader fails to comply.
