RAWANG - Caretaker Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has slammed the Opposition for proposing free parking charges in North Selangor, saying that it is not feasible as every local authority (PBT) is bound by an agreement with a concession company since before 2008.

Amirudin said that Perikatan Nasional (PN) should be more careful with the offer as it is exposed to legal action from concession companies with decades-long agreements.

"If you want to give free parking charges, it means the government has to spend money or pay the lawsuit to this (concession) company," he said when met after the Green Industry Park Launch Ceremony in Kota Puteri here on Tuesday.

He said that the Selangor government has also suspended parking charges in Sabak Bernam and some other areas in Kuala Selangor, but this is only temporary.

"We are still studying the matter and will announce our decision in due course," he said.

He ssaid that the Opposition is well aware of the implications of abolishing parking fees if implemented in this state.

"The opposition doesn't have any (development plans); all they offer is free parking, whereas we offer investments such as industrial parks and job opportunities," he added.

It was reported that PN pledged to waive parking fees in North Selangor if the people mandate the party in the upcoming Selangor State Election.
