Dissatisfied supporters demand change in Ampangan candidate
SEREMBAN - The atmosphere at the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Negeri Sembilan candidate introduction event here on Sunday night became heated when some PKR supporters shouted the phrase 'change Ampangan'.
The supporters, who were seated at the back of the hall, were reportedly dissatisfied with the selection of the Seremban Branch Women Chief Tengku Zamrah Tengku Sulaiman as the Ampangan candidate.
They later moved to the front to meet with the Negeri Sembilan DAP Chairman Anthony Loke Siew Fook to express their discontent.
However, the details of their discussion were not confirmed, but the term "Ampangan" was mentioned.
The supporters told Sinar that they requested the Ampangan candidate to be replaced with someone else because they believed she lacked the qualities of a State Assemblymen.
"We don't even know who she is. Maybe she's a housewife, without any talent.
"To become a candidate, one must have talent, they can't simply be appointed.
"But we can't make the decision (on the suitable candidate), only the party leadership can discuss it," they told Sinar.
Meanwhile, Tengku Zamrah declined to make any statements regarding the matter.
The incumbent Ampangan State Assemblyman was Datuk Mohamad Rafie Ab Malek, who also served as the Exco for Investment, Industry, Entrepreneurship, Education, and Human Capital.
He was regarded as one of the assemblymen who had shown commendable performance as a representative of the people, initiated various developments in Ampangan, including the construction of the Ampangan Modern Market, Ampangan Community Complex to replace the aging Balai Penghulu, Ampangan Flyover connecting the UTC Building - Benteng Ampangan, and Ampangan Square.
However, his name was dropped for the state election after serving one term as a representative.
Meanwhile, two other former PKR assemblymen were also dropped, namely the Sri Tanjung State Assemblyman, Datuk M Ravi, who was also the Deputy Speaker of the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly, and the Chuah State Assemblyman, Datuk Michael Yek Diew Ching.
