State polls: Tengku Zafrul urged to resign as Umno BN Selangor treasurer

SHAH ALAM: Umno Supreme Council (MKT) member Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz is urged to let go of his position as Umno and Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) treasurer after not being named as a candidate contesting in the upcoming state polls.

Kota Raja Umno Youth chief Mohd Zaffarollah Mohd Nordin said it would not be right for the International Trade and Industry Minister to continue holding pertinent positions in the party after being left out of one of the most important decisions of the party and the coalition.

He also claimed that Tengku Zafrul was not involved in the state-level seat allocation discussion or the party's strategy.

"The Kota Raja youth wing also hope that the division chief can relinquish the position of Umno and BN Selangor treasurer.

"Holding a position but being sidelined from important decisions shows that the appointment as treasurer is superficial without any significant responsibility," he said in a statement on Sunday.

Zaffarollah said despite being disappointed that Tengku Zafrul was not nominated, his party will help Pakatan Harapan (PH) to win a seat in the area.

"Despite being disappointed with the party's decision not to nominate Tengku Zafrul in the state polls this time, Umno Youth will still help the PH candidates contesting in Kota Raja," he said.

It was reported previously that Tengku Zafrul had accepted the party's decision not to name him as a candidate.
