Good Vibes Festival's organiser announces cancellation of concert's remaining schedule
SHAH ALAM - The Good Vibes Festival 2023 (GVF2023) organiser, Future Sound Asia announced that the remaining schedule for the music festival for today and tomorrow has been cancelled.
This was following an incident involving British band The 1975 during the concert that took place at the Sepang International Circuit, last night.
It said the decision adhered to the cancellation directive issued by the government today.
“This decision adheres to the immediate cancellation directive cancellation issued at 1.20pm, on July 22, 2023 by the Communications and Digital Ministry.
“The ministry has underlined its unwavering stance against any parties that challenge, ridicule or contravene Malaysian laws," it said in a statement.
The organiser also apologised to those who had bought tickets to the festival as well as the vendors, sponsors and partners of the event.
It added that an update on the refund mechanics will be announced as soon as possible.
"We sincerely apologise. We are aware of the time, energy and efforts you have put into making this festival a success and we value your steadfast support.
"We appreciate your understanding and continued support during this challenging time," it said.
Earlier, minister Fahmi Fadzil said the government will not compromise with any party that belittled and violated the law of the country.
He said he understood that there would be implications towards festival-goers who had already purchased their tickets.
“We will work out with the organisers the best way possible to reimburse those who had purchased the tickets,” he said onTwitter, today.
Fahmi also stressed that the unity government’s stand was clear on the matter.
It was reported that The 1975's performance at the GVF2023 was stopped after its vocalist Matty Healy portrayed disrespectful actions in front of fans.
The singer was accused of holding a bottle of alcohol while on stage and making a speech insulting Malaysia's laws related to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT).
