Sanusi's statements contradicting, Angkatan Muda Harapan says
SHAH ALAM - Angkatan Muda Harapan has accused caretaker Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor of committing two blatant offences in the case of him allegedly insulting Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
Its chief Danial al-Rashid Harun said the first offence was a statement made by the Jeneri state assemblyman who insulted the royal institution during a talk in Selangor.
The second offence was Sanusi stating that he had submitted a letter of apology to the Sultan of Selangor but when brought to court, the Pas leader still pleaded not guilty.
Perplexed, Danial questioned the move by Sanusi to plead not guilty when he had previously asked for the Sultan's forgiveness.
"What is all this? If you sought forgiveness, by right, you are already considered guilty.
"This is something that all of us, especially the children of Selangor, cannot accept," he said at the Daulat Tuanku Gathering: Defend the Royal Institution organised by the Selangor youth wings of Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth and Pakatan Harapan (PH) Selangor Youth at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah mosque on Friday.
The rally was attended by over 100 supporters and several Muslim non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
Also present was Shah Alam Umno Youth Chief Mohd Hafiz Rahman.
Danial said Selangor citizens demand that Sanusi be punished for his cheap political stunt.
He added that the people of Selangor reject political leaders who make reckless accusations, labelling Sanusi's actions to defame the Selangor Sultan as an extreme act.
Meanwhile, Danial said a memorandum would be sent to the Alam Shah palace on Monday to express the party's full support for the Sultan.
He said the memorandum would be signed by political party leaders and NGOs who wanted to uphold the Selangor royal institution.
"We will continue to pressure Sanusi and the Perikatan Nasional (PN) over his action.
"We hope this can teach a lesson to all to stop touching the 3R issues - royalty, religion and race when politicking," he said.
As a political leader, Hafiz added that Sanusi should have set a good example and refrain from touching on sensitive issues when giving political talks.
"He (Sanusi) needs to set an excellent example to the young voters who are just about to familiarise themselves with politics.
"Show clean politics to the youth, not simply curse others.
"For that reason, we want Sanusi to be severely punished for what he has done," he said.
